BOGUS RSPCA INSPECTORS!!!

Postby puddsmum on Fri May 15, 2009 2:17 pm

Called in at V4P on way home from work for flea & worm treatment, & on noticeboard there was a notice from Hessle dog rescue, for Staffie owners.

Apparently there are people posing as RSPCA inspectors, with uniform & badges etc, going round in pairs (which RSPCA don't) targeting Staffie owners.
When people answer the door, they're claiming that complaints have been made that they have a dangerous dog, & they apparently are talking their way into the house, or forcing their way in ... it wasn't clear on the notice. They then try to seize the dog & take it away on the grounds that it is dangerous .... they actually want the dogs for fighting/breeding.

Not sure how long the notice has been there, but I don't remember seeing it when I was in about a month ago, so it must be fairly current.

A search on the web shows this to have been a problem since last year. It seems to be predominately the West Midlands that has been targeted.

Having said that I think everyone should be aware of bogus callers as they are on the increase due to the current economic climate
If you have any doubts about a caller, shut the door and dial 999.
Mick.

It is very recent, in the last few weeks, please do not let an RSPCA member take your dog without calling the police first.

Someone else came home the other day to find their front door open and their dog gone, only their dog so please be vigilant!
money can buy a dog but only love can wag its tail :)
