Meet the Pack

Postby Huskymatt on Tue Mar 03, 2009 12:44 pm

Hi everyone!

My names Matt, and me and my partner are owned by a pack of Siberian huskies. We currently have 6 in our care at the moment. 4 are owned by us and we are fostering 2 for the Siberian Husky Welfare, so they will be will us until new forever homes can be found for them.
So first came Skye and Shadow, they are litter sisters and will be 3 in october. Huskies are not known for their obedience, but we took them both alone to puppy training classes. Both me and Sarah and the dogs really enjoyed the classes and they was a great help to us and Skye and Shadow loved socialising with the other puppies. Allthough they didnt take to all accpects of training as well as their class mates (thats just Huskies for you, they do what they like) the proff of the training is there for all to see, in a proffesional photo i had taken of them. They where so well behaived and sat and stayed where we wanted them to, while the photos were taken. Anyone else with Huskies that has seen the photo, cant believe that we managed to get them to be so well behaved and stay in position.
When Skye and Shadow were old enough, i started to work them in harness, doing what huskies where bred to do (just swapping the sledge for a 3-wheeled rig :D )
This lead to me taking on an other two dogs from a working kennel, both were experienced working dogs, and Skye and Shadow improved greatly with Rosscoe and Vega in the team.
Rosscoe is a 3 yr old grey and white male and he is a big softy and a super lead dog.
Vega is a very sweet 4 yr old female, she is also grey and white and is Rosscoes sister from a previous litter. She is a good little worker and can run anywhere in the team.
Since Rosscoe and Vega have joined us Shadow has shown a lot of promise and has started to run lead along with Rosscoe. Skye loves running, but preferes to be a team dog and take it a bit easier.

Then we decided to take up fostering for the Husky Welfare, we got our first 2 foster dogs in November and they are both close to being rehomed.

People think we are mad having so many dogs, but we wouldnt swap it for the world!

They're gorgeous!!!

Skye & Shadow have grown a bit since I last saw them .... they were all skinny & 'leggy' then!!!! & don't think Roly will remember them now, although Huskies aren't a breed he has 'issues' with!!!

Once you get more than 3 dogs, people tend to think you're a bit mad I have found!!!

Hi
We have two husky-mutes and love them to bits, they are just coming up to 14 months old and we did training with Jill at Oakwood when they were puppies, know what you mean about doing things when they want, but we can get ours to sit and stay thanks to all the training. Lou and Dash are litter brothers. (photos are somewhere on the forum), Lou is black and white and Dash is grey but they have both brown eyes.

Haven't thought about training them to harness but you never know what the future might bring.

We currenly foster for Jill so usually have 3 at home but we're not mad either lol.

Hi - yes, I remember Skye and Shadow - and it was only the other day I was asking Gill if she had any news on them. They were just pups and we trained at St. Andrews at the same time. They are beautiful and the others too. We were there with our two black labbies - Alfie and Ellie. They are now 3 and 2 and we have recently re-homed a beautiful yellow labrador girl called Hunnie through Oakwood's re-homing scheme. We were fostering her  , but she just seemed to fit in so well  .
Hope all goes well for you. Will you be moving to the North Pole now then :D
