Not good with other dogs

Postby bubbles76 on Mon Aug 17, 2009 8:30 am

Hi I have a cross collie called Jack who is about 4-5 years old we got him last week from a rescue centre. We were fully aware that Jack may not get on with other dogs, he is great off his lead when walking on fields and other dogs are around and he has his sniff then walks away no problem, my big problem is we are looking after my parents westie this coming Wed and we have introduced them slowly but each time they fight wether on the field or in there own territory. We have had jack castrated but this doesn't seem to have made a difference with the westie who is also a male. I NEED HELP QUICKLY PLEASE AS THE WESTIE DOES NOT HAVE KENNEL COUGH AND I CAN'T FIND A KENNEL WHO CAN ACCOMODATE HIM AT SHORT NOTICE. :? [/i]

Not good with other dogs

Hi. Oakwood run a homeboarding service which sounds like it could be helpful in your current situation. Give the Training Centre a ring and they will sort it if they can. The kennel cough vaccine is not usually required. Good luck. :)

Sorry for the late reply, I got it sorted thank you, just going to start the process of sorting his behaviour out now fingers crossed it won't cost too much to get him sorted! :(

Well we have now been to 3 classes and Jack is slowly coming along, he still pulls on his lead and eyeballs other dogs when out on walks but he no longer barks at them so that is something. I would thoroughly recommend these classes to anyone having problmes like I am.

INto month 2 of classes now and Jack shows improvement 1 day then is a horror again the next and its normally just when I think we are getting somewhere with him which can be very disheartening to say the least. He ran straight out of our open frontdoor yesterday across the road straight to a large german shephard on its walk with its owner, it was so upsetting having to apologise to the owner and explaining myself but hopefully after not giving him praise and his evening treat for being good will help, other than that its keep going to the classes and hoping they work or that he changes as he gets older!
