Koko my black lab has started to become defensive and growling at other dogs - does any one know how to stop this or the best activities at oakwood he could do to get him back to his silly self ?

I think your best bet is to speak to Gill or Nikki about this, as without anyone seeing him & what he's doing, it's difficult to suggest anything which may help.

It's strange that he's suddenly started to do it, so maybe something's upset him, or triggered his behaviour ... it may even be something you haven't even noticed, but which he found worrying.

I have 2 dogs which growl or bark at other dogs, but both for different reasons -
Molly does it because she's nervous/anxious around dogs she doesn't know, especially on the lead, so she barks/lunges at them - I've been working with her now for well over a year (we originally had 1:1's with Gill), & she's much better, as long as I can distract her (being a lab, food works every time!!!) before the other dog gets too close. This also applies to children, prams & some people!!!
Barkley 'resource guards' ... so it could be a toy, his ball or me, depending on where he is & what the situation is. He will also bark at other dogs in the street when on lead, but I have managed to progressing to distracting him with treats too! Distracting him from guarding me in the coffee/social group on a saturday, though, is a whole different thing altogether, so he's now on time out for a few weeks!!

Off-lead, in the park, they're both much better behaved towards other dogs, but that's probably because they feel more in control & have more options open to them ie they can run away from the other dog if necessary, which they can't do on a lead, & it's more open & less confined than the training field.

Speak to Gill or Nikki about it though.
